With a history spanning more than 135 years, the JSE has played a central role in the South African economy by providing listing, trading, clearing, settlement, market regulation, and market data services. Today, the exchange is ranked among the top 20 largest stock exchanges globally by market capitalization and serves as an important gateway to African markets for both domestic and international investors.
Operating within one of the world’s most diverse and dynamic emerging markets, the JSE offers access to a broad range of issuers and asset classes. As part of its commitment to innovation and sustainable market development, the JSE continues to enhance sustainability and disclosure practices, maintain strong governance standards, and provide products that support the evolving needs of issuers and investors.
As the South African NNA, the JSE is responsible for the timely and accurate issuance and reporting of ISIN, CFI, and FISN codes in accordance with international standards. The ISIN serves as the primary identifier within the South African financial market for trading, clearing, settlement, and position-keeping purposes.
The JSE currently maintains more than 28,000 active ISINs covering listed and unlisted financial instruments, including equities, debt securities, ETFs, notes, collective investment schemes, warrants, and derivatives products.
